SearchTools Survey - July 2002

Reasons Why Search is Not Installed

In this survey, around 66% had not installed a search engine, higher than in previous surveys.

When explaining why not, most said that they didn't do so because they didn't have time (42%), and 15% blamed preceived complexity, both numbers are going down slowly. More and more site managers are citing cost considerations, up from 4% in 1999 to 9.8% this summer. Only 6% of the sites can't run CGIs or other server software, and 5% don't have enough content to justify an effort.
